Community Baptist Church of Slidell, Louisiana, officially began on Sunday, June 22, 1986, with the first service being held in the Hospitality Room of the of the Dryades Savings and Loan, located on Highway 190. The church was dedicated on Ephesians 3:20-21. Together with his wife, Nancy, 9 year-old son, Michael Jr., and 4 month old daughter, Erin, Pastor Mike Harrigan opened the doors to this independent, fundamental, King James Bible Church. The Community Christian School began the same year with 21 students in attendance. During the early years, the church moved to several locations in Slidell. Finally in 1988, the church moved to its current location at 60059 Highway 11 North in Slidell.
In 1995, the church was able to purchase the property that has since been completely paid off. Pastor Harrigan stated that the mission and purpose of Community Baptist Church was as follows: “to reach lost souls for Christ, to edify the believers in the Word, and to provide a Christian education in Slidell.” Pastor Harrigan remained a faithful pastor to Community Baptist Church for 29 years until August 2015, when the Lord decided that Mike should just come Home and stay forever.
Mike Harrigan is dearly missed by many!
